Let me start with a short story. When I first bought food from Ian Diamond a number of years ago, he was running a small home delivery service out of his South Salem, NY home. I knew Ian’s father, Dr. John Diamond, the well-respected doctor, and wasn’t surprised to find that his son Ian was extremely well educated in food and the food industry and totally dedicated to healthy living. But having grown up with a grandmother who was a bio-dynamic farmer and an aunt and uncle who educated me on natural healing practices since I was a young girl, and being a vegetarian for 27 years and espousing the organic lifestyle, I felt I knew how a lot about food myself. And then I complained to Ian about his food prices. Oh boy, was that inflammatory! He asked me what I ate on my drive to NY that week as I was visiting from Pennsylvania. I barely uttered something about organic corn chips and he demanded to see the bag. Miffed, I stomped to my car and got out the half-eaten bag to prove it to him. (which is a whole different story) Before I could even close my car door he said “not organic.” I showed him the organic label. He asked me to turn the bag over and read the ingredients out loud. “Organic corn,” I said loudly. Then my voice stumbled as I read out the totally non-organic ingredients. That was the beginning of a long-held respect and later a a working relationship where I became one of the ‘ingredient police’ at Organic Connection.
